Overview
The Lijiang area and the road to Shangri La make an idea place to learn, or fine-tune your photography skills. A unique and vibrant culture being played out in a marvellous landscape. Alister is available for one to one tuition or for small groups (up to 4 people).
Alister has extensive knowledge about many aspects of photography, with some suggested topics listed below. Time can be allocated any way you want, with half in the field followed by half on the computer allowing for the full process to be explained and practiced in even a single half-day session.
A single session is ideal to answer some of your nagging photographic problems, or time enough to pick up a valuable new skill – in addition to benefiting from my extensive local knowledge.

I do not teach a 5 minute workflow, as all images should be treated as individuals, but there are some fundamental “fixes” that will make most images appear significantly better in a short period of time.

Locations
All half-day sessions will take place in the Lijiang area, as anywhere else is too far to fit easily into a half day time slot. Please see the Lijiang Location Page for details of suitable locations.
Due to the distances involved 1/2 day sessions cannot take place inside the Jade Dragon National Park.
The classroom sessions are conducted in my home office in Lijiang. I can demonstrate techniques on my own 27″ iMac in a comfortable, roomy environment.
Cost
Personal Tuition is available in 4-hour sessions – with a single 4-hour session making up half a day. If it takes us half an hour to get to a location to shoot, and another half hour back to my office, this time is not part of the 4 hour session. Equally, if we are in full flow, I am not going to be watching the clock either. I am determined to give you great value for the time we are together.
4 Hour Session
US$400* = 1 person
US$450* = 2 people ($225 each)
US$525* = 3 people ($175 each)
US$600* = 4 people ($150 each)
*local equivalent currency accepted based on the current exchange rate
To ensure sufficient attention to each person, I do not accept groups of more than 4 people.
A deposit of 30% of the total fee is required at the time of booking confirmation.
Due to my many commitments, 1/2 day sessions cannot be booked more than 1 week in advance.
