Quite simply, we all are, or at least, we should be. By living we use resources, and many think those resources come from the local store, light switch or petrol pump. But, they are all provided by our planet.

Over the last 20 years or so, I’ve worked on many aspects of glaciers and their effects. When I first started out, I was fascinated by the evidence for ancient glaciers in the mountains of Scotland where I grew up. One thing led to another, and now I focus on modern glaciers and how they are responding to climate change. Being based in Svalbard, I can study Arctic glaciers year-round but I also work in other areas such as the Himalaya.
