This is a superb opportunity to experience the best of the Scotland – Isle of Skye, Outer Hebrides, Wester Ross & Torridon. We will stay in a few self catering cottages nestled in the very best of the landscape for 12 days, make daily forays to various beautiful places and retreat to the warmth and comfort of our cottage to warm ourselves with a hot drink and a home-cooked meal.
We have enjoyed a full spectrum of weather and light conditions in past years, as the storms are coming in or clearing, the light has been truly sublime. Of course we want to take you to many of the iconic locations, but we also have a choice of lesser known intimate and unique locations, and these offer real opportunities to produce more personal and individual renditions of our spectacular and amazing landscape.
Regardless of the season, The Outer Hebrides have a unique colour palette; delicate tones and subtle watercolours that juxtapose with strong shapes and textures of the delightful underlying geography. Delicate blues and rusty warm tones overlaid with delicate light and warmer temperatures, urge life to unfold from Sping to Autumn. Ever changing weather creates drama with dark clouds and wild light over the mountains and ocean.
The Isle of Skye is a truly remarkable island in an already exceptional area, the West Highlands of Scotland. From rugged glens, jagged mountain ridges, huge sea cliffs, crystal clear rivers and drama at every turn, come rain or shine the isle delivers time and again. It is no coincidence it hosts some of Scotland’s most iconic and popular locations.
However, for those keen to seek out less well worn paths, this huge island offers plenty of opportunity to explore and discover new compositions. Key Areas Include: The Sleat Peninsular, Elgol, The Red Cuillin, The Black Cuillin, Sligachan, Trotternish, The Old Man of Storr, The Quiraing & Talisker Bay.
Wester Ross & Torridon This is an area that very much lies under the photographic shadow of its next door neighbour, the Isle of Skye. For the people who know and love Torridon and Wester Ross this is something of a blessing as it means solitude and peace. This is a very complex area, made up of a huge corner of remote and often difficult to access glens, gullies and huge mountains. The massive Loch Maree occupies a huge fjord gouged out by the last glaciers and provides an access route through the mountains to the sea at Gairloch.
To the south, Glen Torridon carves its own route through to Loch Torridon and the little village at its head. The whole area is remarkably diverse, with some of Scotland’s most Alpine mountains, native Scots Pine Tree forests, rivers, lochs and mile after mile of both sandy and rocky coastline, punctuated with caves, rock arches and sea stacks. (The sand on the beaches is mostly red due to the prevalent local Torridon Sandstone rocks.)
Alister and Juanli lived in this area when they returned to Scotland and know it intimately.
